Transportation PermitsForm your company and keep your permits up to date.

We help truckers and trucking companies get properly set up and stay compliant. Many carriers operate without a formed company; we start there, and then keep your permits current so you can stay focused on driving and growing your business.

FAQ

FAQ: trucking permits

See all questions
Which trucking permits do you handle?

New applications and renewals for: the biennial USDOT update, UCR, IFTA, Form 2290, MC Authority maintenance, IRP registrations and renewals, state permits such as KYU, New Mexico Weight Distance and New York HUT, and temporary permits when needed.

What is a BOC-3 and why do I need one?

The BOC-3 designates a process agent in every state where the carrier operates. It’s required for every MC Authority and must be filed by an FMCSA-authorized blanket agent. eRubrik LLC coordinates this filing.

How long does it take to get a permit?

It depends on the state system and the type of permit. Some are issued right away; others require manual review by the state. We always give you an estimate before we file.

Do permit fees vary by state?

Yes. Each state sets its own fees. Your invoice includes the state fee plus our service fee. There’s no federal fee for a USDOT number, and UCR fees vary by fleet size, starting at $69.

Do you handle permits nationwide?

Yes. We file permit applications in all 50 states, including each state’s specific requirements and systems.

Does my USDOT number need to be renewed?

Yes. It must be updated every two years with the MCS-150, even if nothing has changed, the company isn’t operating, the truck is out of service or your MC Authority is inactive. If you miss it, the FMCSA can deactivate your USDOT number until you complete the update.

What compliance deadlines should I keep in mind?

UCR: annual renewal. IFTA: quarterly reports. Form 2290: annual filing for the July–June tax period. MC Authority: annual maintenance. BOC-3: one time only, unless you change process agents.

How often do I need to renew my IRP plates?

Every year. The renewal month depends on your fleet’s base state. Missing the deadline can delay your ability to operate legally.

Do Weight Distance permits need to be renewed?

Yes. New Mexico WDT renews every year, Kentucky KYU requires quarterly reports and New York HUT renews every 3 years, depending on the cycle.

What happens if I fail my FMCSA audit?

Failing the New Entrant Safety Assurance Program audit has serious consequences: the FMCSA can revoke your operating authority if you don’t correct the violations. Automatic failures include having no drug and alcohol testing program, using drivers without a valid CDL, operating without required insurance, not keeping hours-of-service records and operating out-of-service vehicles. If you fail, you get a short window to fix it; if you don’t, you lose your authority.
